White Swiss Shepherd Dog Club of Australia Inc.

Registration

The WSSDCA has been providing a registration service for White Shepherds, White German Shepherds, and White Swiss Shepherds around Australia since the year 2000.

As Australia's National Kennel Council (ANKC) does not officially recognise Australian bred White Shepherds, and many overseas White German/ White Swiss Shepherd pedigree's, the WSSDCA offers free registration to all White Shepherds, White German Shepherds, and White Swiss Shepherds that conform to the White Swiss Shepherd Breed Standard.

The club does not penalise White Shepherds with gold or cream coloured coats, believing Australian breeders should have the choice to place temperament, health and structure over more cosmetic ideals.

The White Swiss Shepherd Dog Club of Australia also runs a 'Foundation Register' for coloured shepherds. This register is for coloured shepherds that may be in a dogs pedigree, and coloured white gene carriers.

Registration papers confirm that your dog or puppy has been bred by a responsible breeder. Your puppy is registered and recognised by the Consumer Affairs Incorporated Association, the White Swiss Shepherd Dog Club of Australia Inc (a registered not for profit organization), and entitled to attend shows and events around Australia. Currently, these papers are not recognised by the ANKC or any of its affiliated bodies.

 What is the Registration Process?

Buyers of a dog or puppy bred by a WSSDCA registered breeder,  will find their dog already registered with the Club and entitled to pedigree papers and a registration number from the WSSDCA.

If your dog was bred by a registered breeder of the Club who has used one or more parents NOT Upgraded For Breeding, puppies from this litter will only be issued a Notice of Registration. The club will NOT advertise any litters resulting from this occurence, and breeders may face penalties should this situation arise.

If unsure, buyers should always ask whether both parents have been Upgraded for Breeding (ask to see 'Upgraded For Breeding' Pedigree), and verify this with the Registrar prior to purchase.

 Registering a Non-Registered Dog

If your dog is not from a WSSDCA Registered Breeder, you will need to apply for Registration and Assesment of your dog. Application forms can be found on the Forms  page.

There are a couple of easy options available for assessment by the WSSDCA. The first and best option is to bring your dog to one of our fundays, held across Australia, and arrange for a committee member to meet you and your dog to personally view your dog’s conformation and temperament. Photos will be taken of the dog's conformation, and sent for final review to the rest of the panel as part of the assessment.

If you cannot attend a funday, the alternative is to send in conformation photos, preferably along with contact details of people who are familiar with your dog. This can be done via the internet as long as the photos are of reasonable quality showing the dog 'standing square', side on to the camera, front on sitting, standing front on, standing from the rear, and close ups of the head from front and side. .

These are pictures taken of a male White Shepherd who attended the 2006 National Show. His owner wished to have him registered with the WSSDCA to become a stud dog. As he comes from an un-registered bloodline, conformation pictures were necessary. Below are examples of the conformation assesment pictures submitted:

Once your dog is accepted for registration with the WSSDCA, he or she will be entered onto the clubs National Register with a registration number. This is a free service. If owners wish to have papers for their dog issued, it is twenty five dollars per dog. This registration does not automatically approve your dog for breeding, only dogs who have met the clubs breeding requirements will have their paperwork Upgraded for Breeding.
